how fast is the average Weight Loss for gastric bypass surgery?
I had gastric bypass surgery on Nov. 3rd 2008. I’ve already lost 40 pounds. I wish I had lost more. In a few days it will be 2 months since my surgery. Is this an adequate amount of weight to have lost or should I have already lost more. Of course I can’t loose it fast enough to suit me. I weighed 336 pounds and I am only 5′1. I was miserable. I now weigh 296 and am finally under the 300 mark. That was a huge milestone for me.
Everyone loses the weight a different rate. The norm is about 50 pounds in the first 3 months, so it sounds like you are doing just fine. Most people lose 50% of thier excess weight within the first year. Do not get disappointed in yourself. Change is not easy. You don’t say what your exercise regime is but try bumping it up a notch. Add an extra 1/2 mile to your walk or whatever exercises you are doing. I remember being terrified at my 3 month check up because I felt I didn’t lose enough. I’d lost 55 pounds at that point. Try really hard not to compare your weight loss to what others have lost. We all lose differently. Just make sure you stay with in your dietary guidelines and take your multivitamins and calcium supplements!
Sounds like you’ve gotten off to a great start! Remember there will be plateaus in your weight loss. You may go a whole month a not lose a pounds. Just keep on keeping on. Chin up and all that good stuff! When your hair starts falling out, don’t cry. It will grow back.
I had Gastric Bypass surgery in late Oct 2007. I’ve lost 148 pounds to date. I only have about 35 more to go. I started at well over 300 pounds and I’m 5′10. I started out walking just a mile a day and now I walk 4 miles a day and do strength training 3 times a week. I’m happier and healthier now! I still cry everytime I go down a pants size :0)
