Healthy Monthly Weight Loss
New Year, New Me!! Any tips?

I’ve been on a diet for 2 months now and have lost a stone (14lbs) but I’m starting to miss naughty food lol.

Anyway, as I’m trying to do one thing this year to get healthier (and hopefully weight loss will just happen lol) I’m joining a gym :]

I’ve been thinking about it for ages and I’m looking forward to it – it’s something I used to do and I miss it!!

What tips can you give someone joining a gym? Treat me as a first timer as I haven’t been in years. I’m looking for ideas to get started without burning out etc, and whether I should mix it up with swimming and classes as these are included in my monthly fee if I wish to use them :]

Congratulations on taking control of your life and making healthy changes. It sounds as if you have already joined the gym, if not visit several to find one that fits your needs and the hours you want to exercise.

If they have a personal trainer you might benefit from hiring them for a few sessions just to get you started. At the very least they should have an employee show you the way to use equipment, and fill out an exercise calendar.

Start slowly, with just a short work out. Low weights on machines and only one or two sets. Select the machines you feel will benefit you the most, you can add more later. Trying to use all the equipment may just wear you out at first. Add at least one aerobic exercise such as a treadmill. Variety is always a good idea so if you can also do some swimming or raquet ball that is great. Just remember it will take time to see results, so don’t burn yourself out trying to do everything.
