Getting Instant Messages from people not in my contact list, possible ?

I’ve been getting these annoying IMs telling about Weight Loss Tips and websites to visit. Now I know this might be a virus some of my contacts have, but the emails of the people sending me the IMs are not in my contact list.
I wonder how that is possible and how to stop it.
hmm thats a tricky one. im not 100%sure, but this has happened with mine except for the bit that it is not on your contact list. that is strange, and it is obviously a virus. the only advice i can give you is when it comes up, immediately report the person for spam so you dont get it again from that person( that is where it has written block) if it still comes up get a new msn account. hope i was help. good luck!
