Weight Loss exercise advice?
Ok so Ive just joined a gym, Im very overweight bordering on obese according to the guidelines.
I had a car accident a few years back which caused my knees to both dislocate and since have continued doing so. Just twisting the wrong way can make them come out, this is of course extreemly painful, even though they pop back in place now quite easily.
I know the extra weight Im carrying isnt helping so thats why ive joined the gym. It has a pool so Im planning on swimming to start off as I havent excersied in over a year due to the injury.
So in the actual gym its very modern (new JJB one) so what advice in terms of actual excersises and machines would you recommend? Remembering my knee trouble and general poor fitness level.
Im planning on 2hrs every other day (I have a 3yr old daughter so cant go more often, this is when she is in nursery).
Advice would be lovely!
Joining a gym to lose weight really helps. I have recently lost 48lbs in just over 5 months. The results are amazing. I dropped 4 dress sizes. I had to buy a new wardrobe of clothes. I also ate a Healthy Diet, but I know that the gym absolutely accelerated my weight loss.
I had never been to a gym in my life. At the age of 46 the thought of it was really scary. But like you I decided to join. I had spoke to one of the gym trainers there, and he gave me a programme to follow. It was a lot of cardio and some weights. I started very slowly and then gradually built it up. I attended 5/6 times a week for 1 hour at a time, and then I would go for a swim. Swimming is great exercise too. Very gentle on the joints.(I still attend the gym to maintain my weight). I think that 2hrs is a long time to start with, (but just see how you go).
It was the best thing I have ever done, (apart from marry my husband and have my 4 boys). I have never felt so healthy and have so much energy.
But also to really lose weight you have to change your way of eating too. As you can do hugh amounts of exercise, buy unfortunately if you are comsuming too many calories, the weight will never come off. So I decided to change my diet and this is what I ate:-
Lean meats, poultry, fish, eggs, vegetables, (potatoes, brown rice, brown pasta )(keep these plain and simple, try not to smother them in butter, sauce, etc), (pasta is better in a tomatoe base sauce and not a cream one) wholegrains, beans & pulses, non sugary cereals, skimmed milk, low fat dairy products, coffee, tea and sugar free beverages, healthy oils ( olive, sunflower, safflower, flaxseed, & rapeseed) Limited to 2 tsp a day.
I snacked only on fresh fruit. Cut my portion sizes down too. Drank plenty of water. Make sure you do this too especially when you are attending the gym and drink water whilst you are there too.
I only ate in MODERATION ONLY:-
Take away meals (maybe one every 2 weeks), ready made meals you buy in the supermarket, processed meats, (they have high amounts of saturated fat in), sweets, biscuits, cakes, chocolate, alcohol, sugared fizzy drinks. These are high in saturated fat, sugar and salt. They all add to those unwanted pounds.
I wish you lots of good luck in your quest to lose weight.
