I am taking Topamax for Weight Loss and it is making me light headed, is this normal? I take 50mg twice daily.?
I heard that Topamax is a great prescription drug to help get rid of a lot of excess weight. I am 5′6 and about 278 lbs, and I am Dieting and exercising daily. I have noticed that the Topamax is making me a little light headed during the middle of the day from 12-4pm and I wanted to make sure I wasn’t causing myself any long term risks. Is this normal and are there any other alternative drugs I could take or suggest to my doctor that would be effective? The Topamax I am currently taking is not mine, but I am making sure that I am very careful with how much I take and I have done a lot of research about dosage.
Well, the obvious question is why are you taking prescription medication that was not prescribed to you in the first place and isn’t yours? You don’t have a doctor that prescribed this to you so you have nobody qualified to discuss the side effects and have to resort to the Internet. ANY medication can cause nasty side effects, especially prescription ones.
But since you’re going to ignore that because that’s not what you want to hear, I take 50mg Topamax generic twice daily for a neurological illness and to aid in weight loss. It never made me light-headed, but it caused tingling in my extremities as my body was learning to tolerate it and some forgetfulness. Topamax can have some dangerous side effects, albeit rare.
I would suggest stop taking the Topamax (for several reasons) and see if that is indeed the source of the mid-day lightheadedness or if it’s caused by the other changes you have made in order to lose weight.
